Evaporative Cooling
Introduction:
Evaporative coolers are like traditional air conditioners, except a lot simpler. Evaporative
coolers do not have any exhaust, use 1/4 the energy, and have no toxic cooleant but you have to keep refilling them with water
and ice.
How they work:
You know how when you get yourself wet then go into a wind you suddenly feel cold? That's basically
how swamp coolers work. Here's the technical stuff. Inside a swamp cooler there are pads that are continously sprayed with
water. A fan pushes air through the pads evaporating the water into the air, thereby cooling the air pushed into the room.
Evaporative coolers do not work well in humid climates because then they cannot evaporate any more water to cool the
room.
